Title: The Magic Hat
Author: Mem Fox
Genre: Fantasy
Characters: A town full of people who turn into animals, and a wizard.
Setting: A small town
Theme: Imagination and magic making surprising things happen.
Summary: A magic hat floats into a town one day, and strange things begin to happen. Everything the hat lands on turns into something very different! Bears, kangaroos, toads, baboons, and giraffes start to appear. Then, a huge wizard comes into a town with a stop sign. Everything changes back, and the wizard puts the magic hat on his head. . . and turns into a little boy.
Opinion: I really enjoyed this book, and I thought it was a great book to read to children, who would probably enjoy guessing what animals' names rhyme with the story. I found this book very fun and enjoyable!

Chrysanthemum starts to dislike her name and wishes that she could change it. When she gets home, her parents comfort her and tell her that her name is perfect. This continues the next day, and Chrysanthemum begins to dread school. Then, one day, the music teacher, Mrs. Twinkle, comes to pick parts for the school musical. Chrysanthemum gets picked to play the daisy. All of her classmates make fun of her, and they explain why when Mrs. Twinkle asks. Mrs. Twinkle then defends Chrysanthemum and shares that her name is also long and a flower name! This makes all of the other mice wish they had names like Chrysanthemum's, especially later when they find out what Mrs. Twinkle named her baby!
Opinion: I thought this was a cute story, especially since it has wonderful adjectives to teach children and it shows kids not to make fun of someone, no matter how different they are,

Characters: A little boy
Setting: A little boy's imagination
Theme: A child's imagination!
Summary: A little boy wishes that he had lived a thousand years ago so he could have been a squire to a knight. He daydreams about what he would do if he was the squire, and these things range from polishing the knight's armor to being rescued from a dragon. Then, he thinks about fighting a troll, and when he imagines the troll winning, he decides that he is glad he was not born a thousand years ago after all!
Opinion: This book was so cute. The story is such a wonderful representation of a child's vivid imagination and how children fantasize about being great and brave things. Overall, this is a book that any child would love to read!

Title: The Borrowers
Author: Mary Norton
Genre: Fantasy
Characters: The Clock family and a human boy
Setting: An old, big country house
Theme: Friendship and survival
Summary: The Clock family members are Borrowers. This means that they are tiny people who have their own little house within a huge human house, and they borrow things from the humans to make their house. For example, they may take a postage stamp and use it for a painting on their wall. They only borrow things that the humans will not miss. One day, a little sick boy sees one of the Borrowers, which leads him to try to find the family. When he does, he becomes friends with Arrietty, the Clock daughter. Their friendship continues to grow and the boy does not try to hurt the family but instead brings them things that they need. Unfortunately, he takes too much and the housekeeper notices that things are going missing, which puts the Clock family in grave danger!
Opinion: I thought that this was a great book. The author was so descriptive that the reader feels like they are looking at the Borrower's home, and I couldn't put this book down! The story makes it feel like there really are people like the Borrowers, which will make children's imaginations go wild!
