Title: Counting Kisses
Author: Karen Katz
Genre: Counting
Characters: Baby, Mommy, Daddy, Sister, Grandma, Puppy, and Kitty
Setting: In Baby's bedroom
Themes: Family and counting
Summary:
A sleepy little baby gets lots of kisses on ten different parts of her body from all of the members of her family, until she finally falls asleep with her family around her. All of the kisses are given in different, adorable ways.
My Opinion: I really liked this book because it was simple, cute, and delightful. I thought that it was a cute way to teach a child to count, especially since a parent could act it out with his or her child. I also liked how each of the kisses used a different adjective, which can help a child learn to describe things properly.

The Dangerous Alphabet

Title: The Dangerous Alphabet
Author: Neil Gaiman
Genre: Alphabet
Characters: Two children, their father, and countless monsters and other imaginary creatures.
Setting: Undergound in a sewer
Themes: Imagination and scary letters
Summary: Two children presumably go underground to the sewer in a boat and encounter countless scary monsters, ghosts, and so much more! The rhymes are catchy and the illustrations quite terrifying, until at last the children go back to their father.
My Opinion: I liked this book because I thought that this was a very creative way to present the alphabet. I think that the illustrations were what made it interesting, and I loved the fact that there were many little things starting with that letter on each page. The one thing I disliked was that this book could be disturbing to some children, especially younger ones, because some of the pictures were a bit graphic, such as a dead dog floating in the water. Overall, though, this book is great for anyone who wants a different perspective on the alphabet.

Master M gives them gifts to give her, all of which begin with a letter of the alphabet, and they all go home to help with the special birthday surprise.
My Opinion: I thought that this was a very cute way to represent the alphabet because it also told a sweet story of friendship. It also emphasized that everyone is important and special, and that you should love your mother no matter how big you are!
